Hi, I am Lukas Valatka

I am Software Engineer, and I currently live in Leuven, Belgium. At the moment, I help Dataroots - a Belgian data scale-up - build ML Platforms.

Before Dataroots, in 2023, I worked for Otrium, a Dutch online fashion outlet marketplace. I improved the dynamic pricing engine, most of the uplift actually steming from fixing the offline validation procedures, and getting online experimentation right (implemented A/B testing). I also unblocked the team on automation tracks, by designing and developing pricing model output integrations with internal systems - including tough external team priorities management!

From 2019 to 2022, I was at Vinted. I have built the first version of home screen recommendations, search ranking and a milisecond-latency feature store - some of the components still operate up to this day. These implementations resulted in double-digit improvements in business metrics, firmly establishing machine learning-powered ranking and recommendations as a standalone data product within Vinted. Most of my muscle had been built there.

Before this, I trained deep neural networks for autonomous mobile robots, and even built some JAVA backends... I have a degree in Computer Science (Software Engineering).

I usually write Python. Most of what I've been doing has been data science, data engineering and backend development. I am currently exploring Rust and Go.

In my spare time, I practice Traditional Karate-do and cycle.
